La Uruguaya is the place to go to get down to the business of eating. From the window of this small, yet popular restaurant, you will be greeted by meat nirvana-- a smorgasbord of chicken, pork and steak.
In this extremely simple restaurant, the food takes the main stage. La Uruguaya has it all without the fancy frills, making it one of Santiago's best-kept secrets since May 2005. A friendly staff and budget prices are sure to turn you into a repeat visitor.
For an interactive meal, share the parrillada, a bowl of hot coals topped with a plate full of savory, artesian Uruguayan meat. For around CP$ 12,000 (US$ 23) you can get the Premium Parrillada, which has everything from the farm and can feed five people to the rim. The Premium includes pork sausage, blood sausage, sirloin steak, beef and pork ribs and chicken. If you are not up to a parrillada, La Uruguaya also has a variety of platos fondos (main dishes), served in generous portions to satisfy your appetite.
Since this place is a hot spot for families on the weekends, Saturday and Sunday lunches have lengthy wait lists.
La Uruguaya is a 15-minute walk from Plaza Italia. Take Line 5 to Metro Bustamante, walk north in Bustamante Park and turn left onto Rancagua.
