This coming weekend sees The Clinic’s new Radicales extension taken over for a three-day festival of art, music, design and general festivity as art collective URBN STGO hosts the Arte Acessible Navidad Feria/Fiesta. In addition to an extended independent art sale that is the main feature of Arte Acessible events, there will be a wide range of other activities and performances taking place, with late night parties and gigs on the Friday and Saturday nights.

Revolver recently ran an interview with URBN STGO, which you can read here, discussing the organisation’s welcome appearance on the cultural scene earlier this year, and the ideas behind the events which have created a platform for Chilean artists to reach a larger public while also opening a portal into the underground art scene. The basic premise of Arte Acessible is that artists exhibit their work with no pricing system in place. Although all artwork is on sale, the events eschew typical selling practices such as predetermined prices in order to promote artist - buyer relations through encouraging them to negotiate independently.

The Christmas Fair and Party gets under way on Friday with a programme featuring visual arts from Chilean artist Vagabundo, Mapocho blues from local band La Guachaca, and an afterparty with Canadian deep house crew Blond:ish. In addition, there will be a special expo from Chilean fashion photographer Roberta Rebori, which runs the course of the weekend.
The Christmas fair properly gets under way on the Saturday, with several stalls offering everything from prints to tattoos to food. As is URBN STGO’s way, these will feature independent artists, designers and vendors and intends to support emerging talent. Saturday includes numerous art displays and a series of workshops from Arte Usable, Foto Ruta and Taller de Gradado. The party later is in conjunction with music promoters Eroica and boasts Santiago bands Nueva Costa and Pupila Spectra on the bill. As with Friday, it goes on late and, while the daytime offers free admission, there is a charge for the party.
The fair and exhibitions continue throughout Sunday and all in all it’s shaping up to be a weekend of real creative diversity. The Arte Acessible events have proven highly popular and this should be the biggest and best one yet. Full details on the Arte Acessible Navidad Feria/Fiesta can be found on the URBN STGO Facebook page and as a Facebook event.
