Best things to do this weekend in Santiago (Jul 22 - 24)

Final couple of days to catch the "eX-céntrico" performance art gathering in Santiago! Street performances, artistic interventions and conferences are being held around the city. If you're looking for some live music, this weekend features quite a few shows guaranteed to be a blast- including performances by Newen Afrobeat, Banda Conmocion and Carnivalito Gitano. Other picks include a roller derby tournament, a ton of exhibits, theater events for the whole family, and even a Harry Potter convention. Check it out!

  • Todos Los Colores Para Todas Las Vidas: As the chief muralist for one of Chile's most recognizable and influential artistic movements - the Ramona Parra Brigade, a branch of the Communist party which painted brightly colored and outlined murals depicting the fight for social justice and human rights in Chile - Patricio Madera has been at the heart of political and artistic revolution in Chile for decades. His work has appeared all over the country and in other countries such as Bolivia and Mexico. "All Colors for All Lives" features the work of a passionate muralist and artist whose body of work and influence through art puts him on par with other world-famous muralists such as Mexico's Diego Rivera.

  • Superflex: The Corrupt Show And The Speculative Machine: Have you ever wanted to threaten the stability of society through illegal activities, but avoid the fallout? Now you can...in theory. "The Corrupt Show and the Speculative Machine," a new interactive exhibit by danish artist group SUPERFLEX at the MAC Quinta Normal, calls for guests to sign one of thirteen "wrongful act" contracts and hang them on the museum wall, with the intention of undermining society's rules and regulations through solidarity.

  • Lose Your Mind: Be prepared to lose your head a little bit at "Lose Your Mind" by British artist David Shrigley, presented at the MAC in collaboration with the British Council. Shrigley is renowned for his use of taxidermy and drawings to make observations about life, all with a fun dash of black humor. As a part of the exhibition, Shrigley also conducted a workshop and lecture with art students at the University of Chile.

  • Vestidas: 100 Años De Moda: Go back in fashion time to Chile in the 1800s, and explore the subsequent hundred years of fashion and accessories, available on loan from a private collection, and discover how the visual and material aesthetics of the period and personal style and taste greatly influenced and were influenced by your place in society. Items on display include a nun's habit and an old-fashioned wedding dress.

  • Proyecto Movil: Alucinaje: Head to the MAC this weekend to catch the opening of Project Mobile's latest exhibition focused on Latin American cultures. Originally created in 2009, the founders of the Mobile Project sought to provide more opportunities for young people to create art in public spaces. This current incarnation of the project will focus on artists from the city of Concepcion.
