Best things to do this weekend in Santiago (May 1 - 3)

It's May, the weather's a bit dreary, people have left the city in droves for the long weekend, shops are mostly closed today and downtown will soon wreak of tear gas after the Workers' Day marches. Yikes. But cheer up! Options are limited but we've still managed to find quite a few things going on in the city worth checking out. The Ballet Nacional de Chile is performing Friday and Saturday night, the Animales en la Via Jazz Series is ongoing, Ceviche Day at Parque Araucano, Cueca parties, industrial/goth dance nights, live performances by Rakim and Helen Marnie (Ladytron), and more! Oh and we're beta-testing our new agenda site so let us know what you think!

Remember every Friday we'll post our picks for the weekend and please check this space often as we may update it with changes and/or new events that pop up. Enjoy!

  • Juego de manos: Looking for more off-the-beaten path events? Here's a good one- Sagrada Mercancía is an independent art organization that promotes the visual arts using non-traditional / non-government channels. They've invited performance artist Gonzalo Rabanal for a show at 8pm sharp.

  • Openveggiepicnic: It's a long weekend so start it off right with a vegeterian/vegan picnic over at Parque O'Higgins.
    Cancelled
  • Marcha 1 de mayo: May Day! Today's International Workers' Day, which obviously means people will be marching through the streets of Santiago. Several marches are going on - if you see cops dressed in riot gear behind a corner, chances are a march is going to pass through the area.

  • Semana Gótica Manto Negro: Major event for the goth crowd. It's called Goth Week but the dates are a little off- May 1, 11, 13 and 15. Regardless there's a party involved, a book launch, exhibition, and some conferences.
